RoHS & Reach Testing

EU rules restricting the use of hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment to protect the environment and public health. Therefore, RoHS Directive currently restricted substances included heavy metals, flame retardants or plasticizers.

EU RoHS 1 restricts 6 hazardous substances as following:

    • Lead (Pb) : 0.1%
    • Mercury (Hg) : 0.1%
    • Cadmium (Cd) : 0.01%
    • Hexavalent Chromium (Cr6+) : 0.1%
    • Polybrominated biphenyls(PBB) : 0.1%
    • Polybrominated diphenyl ether (PBDE) : 0.1%

EU RoHS 2 restricts 10 hazardous substances as following:

    • Lead (Pb) :  0.1%
    • Mercury (Hg) :0.1%
    • Cadmium (Cd) :0.01%
    • Hexavalent Chromium (Cr6+) :0.1%
    • Polybrominated biphenyls(PBB): 0.1%
    • Polybrominated diphenyl ether (PBDE):0.1%
    • Bis(2-Ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP): 0.1%
    • Benzyl butyl phthalate (BBP): 0.1%
    • Dibutyl phthalate (DBP): 0.1%
    • Diisobutyl phthalate (DIBP): 0.1%

REACH

REACH is a regulation of the European Union, adopted to improve the protection of human health and the environment from the risks that can be posed by chemicals, while enhancing the competitiveness of the EU chemicals industry. EACH applies to all chemical substances; not only those used in industrial processes but also in our day-to-day lives, for example in cleaning products, paints as well as in articles such as clothes, furniture and electrical appliances. Therefore, the regulation has an impact on most companies across the EU.

The authorisation process aims to ensure that substances of very high concern (SVHCs) are progressively replaced by less dangerous substances or technologies where technically and economically feasible alternatives are available.

EU producers or importers of articles which contain substances on the SVHC list in a concentration above 0.1% (w/w) have to provide sufficient information to their customers to allow safe use of the article.
