Mechanical Testing

Material testing is to determine the best fit of its application or as final validation testing on finished goods. AMCEN Lab can analyse the physical properties, mechanical properties, structure and microstructure of many chemicals and materials.  Samples can be arised from raw materials, sub-components or finished assemblies from a diverse range of industries.  

Analysis of physical properties can be linked to product and process development or quality issues, reliability, life testing problems or customer returns or as part of reverse engineering or problem solving studies.

Physical analysis can generate fine structural images of samples using optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and combined with careful preparation of the samples, particularly cross-sections, allows many aspects of the physical properties of a sample to be analysed and explained.  These include : 

  • Identification and elimination of defects such as contaminants, stains, cracks and flaws, which can have catastrophic effects on products performance through stress concentrators.
  • SEM can be used to understand the microscopic structure of products allowing improvements to performance to be engineered.
  • Failure investigations or evaluation of process improvements in products and processes.
  • Physical analysis also includes measurement of more fundamental materials properties such as mechanical properties and hardness testing, density or wetting characteristics.
